When I first got into the nursing profession I had the unfortunate experience of having to work on night shift. It’s no secret that doing shift work through the night is detrimental to one’s health. A recent study came out showing that those on shift work had significantly worse memory and cognitive speed than people who worked regular, consistent hours. This isn’t the first study to show cognitive impairment from shift work. Why some people choose tAlso o do shift work for decades is beyond me – despite the freedom from management that it provides, it’s not worth the health risks. Thankfully I don’t have to do that anymore.
Kidney (renal) stones are a frequent complaint from patients that I come across in the emergency room. For many of the patients, they either don’t drink enough water or drink too much soda. It’s a simple resolution but not many follow through on it. I’m sorry if you’ve ever experienced a kidney stone. It looks like hell and I hope I never get one.
Also on the kidney health radar is: the Mediterranean diet is associated with a lower risk for kidney disease. So much in fact that those studied (nine hundred people), had a fifty percent less chance of developing chronic kidney disease.
