How Well Did The 2015-2016 Flu Vaccine Work?

The 2015-2016 influenza season is over. Did you get the 2015-2016 flu vaccine? If you did, here’s how effective the 2015-2016 flu shot was.

The 2015-2016 flu season is at it’s end. This year’s flu vaccine covered several different strains as usual:

1. An Influenza A/California/7/2009 (H1N1) like virus
2. An Influenza A/Texas/50/2012 (H3N2) like virus
3. An Inluenza B/Massachusetts/2/2012 like virus

Most flu vaccines guard against three strains of influenza, however, some contain four strains. For the 2015-2016 flu shots that contained four strains of the flu they included:

An Influenza B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus). This is a B/Victoria lineage virus – and the same strain as the previous two years before this.

So if you got this year’s flu vaccine, how effective was it at keeping you from getting sick?

How Effective Was The 2015-2016 Flu Vaccine?

This year’s flu vaccine was quite a bit better than the 2014-2015 flu vaccine (which only worked 23% of the time). The final estimates for the 2015-2016 flu vaccine effectiveness was forty seven percent.
