Interesting study out of JAMA Interneal Medicine: States with medical marijuana havetwenty-five percent fewer prescription overdose deaths when compared to states that do not. Interesting indeed.

A while ago we wrote about the safety of e-cigarettes. This week the American Heart Association called for strict federal regulation over the concern that electronic cigarettes may lead to increased nicotine youths in minors. Currently major research is still out on the health effects and efficacy of e-cigarettes as an alternative to traditional cigarettes.

Also: The World Health Organization is calling for an indoor ban on electronic cigarettes.

Some people have additional allergies to milk (aside from being intolerant of lactose). A certain protein called beta-lactoglobulin is responsible for it. The caveat: the allergy is only a problem when the milk is devoid of iron.

Have you ever been told that you’ve got too much salt in your diet? Maybe it’s not the salt that’s contributing. A new discovery has unveiled that excess phosphates in the blood lead to hormone regulation that triggers an increase in sodium in your blood as well – and if levels are too high they can cause your body to retain fluid and put a strain on your heart and kidneys.

I can’t stand articles like this: Are Yams Paleo? It bugs me when so many labels get tossed around on food. If you’re so concerned over what’s paleo and what’s not, you might want to rethink your philosophy on food. Yams have a plethora of health benefits. Simply not eating them because you don’t think they’re Paleo is stupid. If you can tolerate them, eat them and enjoy their benefits. If you can’t tolerate them, then don’t eat them. There are worse things that you could be eating.
