I know you’ve been waiting for it, the long anticipated list of the least obese cities is finally out. See where your state ranked. Great news for my town, we ranked sixth in the nation. Boulder, CO was the first.
Problems with cholesterol? Eating one daily serving of non-oil-seed legumes can decrease LDL cholesterol levels by six percent.
One thing to note: not all cholesterol is created equal – much of the problem of cholesterol stems from inflammation from foods that cause inflammation (see most carbohydrates). The key is a good balanced diet. Legumes are also high in antinutrients so don’t go trigger happy with them.
Curious how the food industry markets cereal to you? A new study released found that cereals targeting adults were at adult eye level and children cereal were placed at the eye level of children.

Huge news about the anti-viral flu medication, Tamiflu. Where I work this medication is often prescribed to people after they have been diagnosed with the flu. Turns out a Cochrane review (one of the best research reviewers), found pretty much no benefits to Tamiflu. What the study found: Tamiflu only reduced flu symptoms by about half a day at best and that it had no effect on hospitalizations related to flu like symptoms. The drug also increased nausea and vomiting by 4% in adults and 5% in children.

Good news for those living in the UK (but not really): UK does less exercise than at any time in history. This is of course all according to a Parliamentary report.
Note to insurance companies:
You would save money spent on managing chronic diseases and their exacerbation if you took a new approached and made it easier for people to financially afford personal trainers and nutritionists. Take a proactive, holistic approach in addition to the medical approach that is clearly not working.
